                BW-Connect(TM) NFS Client/Server v3.6 for Windows NT

Please read this file completely as it contains important installation
instructions!

Installation Notes:
-------------------
These release notes apply to the x86, DEC Alpha, MIPS, and PowerPC
versions of the BW-Connect NFS v3.6 for Windows NT code. This release
will work on Windows NT v3.1 v3.5, and v3.51, and automatically installs
the correct driver for the specific version. The BW-Connect NFS for
Windows NT release is comprised of two or more floppies or zipped images
of floppy install files. The product is designed to be installed from a
high density 3.5" floppy.

Most of the files on this release have been compressed with the Windows NT
compress utility. There is no need to expand any of them as they are
automatically expanded by the installation process. However, you may want
to expand the following three files manually from the floppy to your hard
drive as you may find them useful during installation of the product.
Execute the commands below:

cd <hard drive install dir eg. c:\bwnt>
	expand a:nfsinstl.hlp nfsinstl.hlp
	expand a:install.wri install.wri
	expand a:bwnfs36.wri bwnfs36.wri

This will allow you to review help file topics or the installation
instructions prior to installing the release code.

Complete release notes are in the file bwnfs36.wri.

Installation Help File
-----------------------
There is an installation help file, NFSINSTL.HLP, on Disk1 of the release
which you may expand and view prior to installation. Expand the Help file
to your hard drive, create a new item in one of your Windows Destop groups
pointing the Command Line field to the path and filename of nfsinstl.hlp.
Double clicking on the Help ? will launch the Help file.

Release on floppies
--------------------
If you received a set of diskettes, refer to the hardcopy installation
manual for instructions on how to install this software.

Release received electronically
--------------------------------
If you downloaded this software from our anonymous ftp site or some other
electronic source, an activation key is required in order for the software
to function. Please call 919-831-8989 and ask for department 637 in order
to obtain an activation key good for 30 days.

Refer to the electronic version of the installation manual, INSTALL.WRI.
This is a compressed file, and must be expanded as described above before
it can be viewed with the Windows Write (WRITE.EXE) application.

If you want to install the software from your hard drive without creating
installation floppies, create a directory and unzip the release file into
it using pkunzip (without the -d switch), and use the directory into which
you unzipped the software as the source directory for the installation.

If you want to create installation floppies, create a directory and unzip
the release file into it using pkunzip with the -d swtich. This will
preserve the directory structure of the release floppies, and you can then
copy the release images for disk1, disk2, ... from your hard drive to
each respective floppy.

NFS Server
----------
This version of BWNFS for Windows NT includes both NFS Client and NFS
Server modules, although they are priced separately. The NFS Server is
installed as a Windows NT Service and includes a Control Panel application
for adding UNIX UID/GID to Windows NT Username/Groupname mappings and for
viewing NFS Server statistics

In order to mount Windows NT files exported with the NFS Server from an
NFS client, you must first create an EXPORTS file, and map UNIX UID/GID
values to Windows NT Usernames and Groupnames. Search in the NFS Server
Help file for the topics "EXPORTS file" and "UID" for instructions on how
to complete these steps.

The implementation of the network lock manager in the NFS Server for
Windows NT does not currently support monitored locks.

Upgrading Windows NT 3.1 to 3.5
--------------------------------
Please read the help file topic about Windows NT versions. Search for
Topic "3.1 version of Windows NT".

Users with previous software installed:
---------------------------------------
If you have a previously installed copy of BW-Connect NFS for Windows NT
installed, and you the diskette you received is marked UPDATE ONLY you
should choose the UPDATE button from the Control Panel Network
application. Do not REMOVE your existing copy of BWNFS instead of
UPDATEing as your existing serial number is required during the UPDATE
process.

If you have a previously installed copy of BW-Connect NFS for Windows NT
installed, and you have either an electronic release of the code or a
specific serial number on your diskette (e.g. 15-xxxxxx) then you should
REMOVE the existing software first, reboot your machine, and then ADD
SOFTWARE. Ensure that you specify <Other - Requires disk from the
manufacturer> in the Add Network Software Dialog box, and do not select
the Beame & Whiteside NFS selection from the Network Software list.
