NAME

Latin1 - Source code filter for Latin-1 script

SYNOPSIS

    In your script:

      use Latin1;

    At command prompt:

perl.exe yourscript.pl wild* *card and '*quote*' are ok ...
perl58 yourscript.pl wild* *card and '*quote*' are ok ...
perl510 yourscript.pl wild* *card and '*quote*' are ok ...
perl512 yourscript.pl wild* *card and '*quote*' are ok ...
perl64 yourscript.pl wild* *card and '*quote*' are ok ...

DESCRIPTION

This software is "JPerl on the Modern Perl" written by Perl.

To our regret, the Sjis software family cannot treat Latin-1 up to now.
This software can supplement those weak points. We can write the script
      in Latin-1 again.

This software treats Latin-1 directly. Therefore, there is not UTF8 flag.

INSTALLATION BY MAKE (for UNIX)

To install this software by make, type the following:

   perl Makefile.PL
   make
   make test
   make install

INSTALLATION WITHOUT MAKE (for DOS like system)

To install this software without make, type the following:

   perl pMakefile.PL --- pMakefile.PL makes "pmake.bat" only, and ...
   pmake.bat
   pmake.bat test

pmake.bat install --- install to current using Perl
   perl58 pmake.bat install --- install to Perl5.8
   perl510 pmake.bat install --- install to Perl5.10
   perl512 pmake.bat install --- install to Perl5.12
   perl64 pmake.bat install --- install to Perl64

pmake.bat dist --- make distribution package
   pmake.bat ptar.bat --- make perl script "ptar.bat"

PROGRAM COMPOSITION

Latin1.pm --- source code filter for Latin-1 script
   Elatin1.pm --- run-time routines for Latin1.pm
   perl58.bat --- find and run perl5.8 without %PATH% settings
   perl510.bat --- find and run perl5.10 without %PATH% settings
   perl512.bat --- find and run perl5.12 without %PATH% settings
   perl64.bat --- find and run perl64 without %PATH% settings

Latin-1(ISO/IEC 8859-1) IN WIKIPEDIA

ISO/IEC 8859-1 (2010.03.06 15:19:00 JST). In Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia.

Retrieved from

ISO/IEC 8859-1:1998, Information technology - 8-bit single-byte coded graphic
character sets - Part 1: Latin alphabet No. 1, is part of the ISO/IEC 8859 series
of ASCII-based standard character encodings, first edition published in 1987.
It is informally referred to as Latin-1. It is generally intended for
"Western European" languages (see below for a list).

ISO-8859-1 is the IANA preferred charset name for this standard when supplemented
with the control codes from ISO/IEC 6429 for the C0 (0x00-0x1F) and C1 (0x80-0x9F)
parts. Escape sequences (from ISO/IEC 6429 or ISO/IEC 2022) are not to be interpreted.
The Windows-1252 codepage coincides with ISO-8859-1 in the code ranges 0x00 to 0x7F
and 0xA0 to 0xFF, but not for the range 0x80 to 0x9F.

* ALGORITHM #1

When the character is taken out of the octet string, it is necessary to
distinguish a single octet character and the multiple octet character.
The distinction is done only by first octet.

    Single octet code is:
      0x00-0xFF

* ALGORITHM #2

Against algorithm.1, when the range of the character by tr/// is specified, only the
following character codes are effective.
