There are two different icons: display.icon and xyfile.icon. The
display icon is for the program. It is the icon that will be
displayed once the xysee window is iconified. The xyfile icon is for
the file manager program filemgr. It has to be installed into the
system. This way whenever a *.xy file is displayed in the panes of
the filemgr, it will represented by a small xysee icon.

To install th xyfile icon and mask you must use the binder. In
version 3.0 of OpenWindows, binder has a bug, so it is important to
install the icons following the exact procedure. Else the bug may be
exercised.

To install the icons system wide:

1. Become superuser

2. Back up the binder's database
There are two system wide databases: the files in
/etc/cetables and the files in $OPENWINHOME/lib/cetables.
Make backup copies of these files by copying them with other
	names:
		cp cetables cetables.BAK
	will do.

3. Install the icons.
Put the xyfile.icon and xyfile.mask files wherever you keep
the system icons. I keep them in /usr/local/lib/icons, but
any other place will do. You must just know their full
pathnames. If you are in a networked system, make sure that they
	are visible to all machines.

4. Start binder.
Start the binder program as root and with the system options:

		binder -system &

Make sure that root has access to your display.

5. Update the binder database.
From the main window choose the (New) button. This will
display a pushpin panel with the Properties title. Fill in
the information. For the icon you can give any name. This
name is just used in the database. I choose xyfile. Image
file is the icon xyfile.icon, and Mask file is the mask for
the icon, xyfile.mask. After that hit the (+) button. For
	application type:
		xyplot $FILE | xysee &
This is the shell line that will be executed when the icon is
	double-clicked. For print method type:
		xyplot -s $FILE | xyps | lpr
This is the shell line that will be executed when the print
command is chosen in the filemgr.

After updating the icon part, update the file type part.
Choose the (File Types) button on the top portio of the panel.
Go to the Pattern: text lie and enter
		*.xy
and hit return. The *.xy should appear on the scrolling panel
list. This is the shell pattern that will select the files
that should be associated with the xyfile icon and procedures
	under the filemgr.

6. Save the information.
To commit the changes, press the (Apply) button on the pushpin
properties panel. After that up-pin it. The title bar of
the binder program should say edited. To save the changes to
the database, press (Save) on the top of the panel.

7. Quit binder
Quit the binder. If you want to do other operations with it,
	quit and start again.

The effects of the binder in filemgr will only show up once it is
restrated.
