     LEGEND SUBFORM

The "Legend" subform allows you to modify the legend of
Class Categories. On the "Legend" subform, you will find
     the following items:

     A) A toggle with which to change the Colorspace Model.
     B) A set of action buttons with which you may manipulate
the class categories in a variety of ways.
     C) A set of color scroll bars with which to set the desired
color in which to display the clusters belonging to a par-
     ticular class category.
     D) A list of the class categories which exist in the
current legend, each of which consists of three items: (1)
a colorbox that reflects the color in which the class
category is displayed, and in which you must click the first
mouse button to indicate the class category whose color you
wish to change, (2) the RGB values that define the color
in which the class category is currently displayed, and (3)
a title button labelled with the text that identifies the
class category, on which you may click the first mouse but-
ton when you wish to change this text.

     Creating Class Categories

To create a new class category, click the first mouse button
on either the desired cluster as it is displayed in the
image, or the desired cluster as it is displayed in the zoom
box. A list widget will pop up, from which you should
select "New Category". Next, a prompt widget will pop up,
in which you must enter a unique name for the new class
category. Once a unique name is entered, the new class
category is created with the selected cluster its only
member. The fact that a new class category has been created
will not be immediately apparent in the image; in order to
see clearly the locations of the cluster that now belongs to
the new class category, you must change the color in which
it is displayed in the image (see Changing Colors of Class
Categories). In the event that the button is clicked on a
cluster which is already assigned to another class category,
you will be prompted to: (1) cancel the action, (2) to
transfer that cluster to a different class category, or (3)
to delete that cluster from the class category to which it
     is currently assigned.

     Changing Colors of Class Categories

First, select the class category you wish to change by
clicking the first mouse button in the colorbox associated
with the desired class category. Note that the default
class category for color change is that category that was
most recently created. Then, use the scroll bars above the
class category list to the desired color. The colorbox
associated with the selected class category will reflect the
change in color; at the same time, all clusters that are
members of the selected class will reflect the same color
change in the image. By changing the color of the class
category, the locations of clusters in that class category
     become readily apparent.

     Changing the Colorspace Model

When changing the color of a class category, some users may
prefer to use another colorspace model other than the
default RGB colorspace. The Colorspace Model toggle offers
     a choice of RGB (Red/Green/Blue), CMY (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow),
     HSV (Hue/Saturation/Value), HLS (Hue/Light/Saturation), or
Grey colorspaces. Click the first mouse button in the tog-
gle box associated with the desired color space in order to
change the Colorspace Model. Immediately, the color scroll
bars will change accordingly to reflect the current color
space. The new colorspace will now be used every time the
color of a class category is changed.

Changing the Title of a Class Category

Each class category is uniquely identified by its associated
text. This text should be descriptive of the nature of the
class category, such as "Desiduous Forest", "Coniferous
Forest", "Wetlands", and so on. To change the title of a
class category, simply click on the title button associated
with that class category. A prompt widget will pop up, in
which you may enter the new title.

Adding Additional Clusters to an Existing Class Category

Click the first mouse button on either the desired cluster
as it is displayed in the image, or the desired cluster as
it is displayed in the zoom box. A list widget will pop up,
from which you should select the title of the class category
to which you would like to add the new cluster. Any loca-
tions in the image that have that new cluster will be
immediately updated to appear in the color associated with
the selected class category. In the event that the button
is clicked on a cluster which is already assigned to another
class category, you will be prompted to: (1) cancel the
action, (2) to transfer that cluster to a different class
category, or (3) to delete that cluster from the class
category to which it is currently assigned. Note that the
Scatter Plot may also be used to add additional clusters to
a class category; see the help section on Scatter Plot for
     more details.

Deleting Clusters from a Class Category

Click the first mouse button on the desired cluster as it is
displayed in the color associated with the class category
from which it is to be deleted. You will be prompted to:
     (1) cancel the action, (2) to transfer that cluster to a
different class category, or (3) to delete that cluster from
the class category to which it is currently assigned.
Selecting the third option will cause the cluster to be
     deleted from the class category.

     Deleting Class Category(s)

Click the first mouse button on the action button labelled,
"Delete Category(s)". A list widget will pop up, listing
all existing class categories. Select the category(s) to be
deleted, and then click on "Use". Another pop-up prompt
will appear, asking you to confirm your decision. When the
deletion is confirmed, the class category(s) selected will
     be deleted from the legend.

     Emptying Class Category(s)

At some time, you may wish to delete all clusters from a
particular class category, but at the same time to preserve
the class category itself for later use. Click the first
mouse button on the action button labelled, "Empty
Category(s)". A list widget will pop up, listing all exist-
ing class categories. Select the category(s) to be emptied,
and then click on "Use". Another pop-up prompt will appear,
asking you to confirm your decision. When the action is
confirmed, the class category(s) selected will be emptied of
clusters. NOTE: when a class category is empty, this state
is indicated by the colorbox associated with that class
     category appearing in white.

     Using the Catch-All Category

After the desired amount of classification has been accom-
plished, you may wish to dump all remaining clusters into a
"catch-all" category. Click the first mouse button on the
     action button labelled, "Catch-All Category". A pop-up
prompt will appear, asking you to confirm your decision.
When the action is confirmed, every cluster that does not
belong to one of the currently existing class categories
will be made a member of the Catch-All Category.

     Hiding Selected Category(s)

Often it is useful to see only a subset of the class
categories displayed in the image, with the others "invisi-
ble". When this is the case, the "class category hiding"
option may be used. Click on the action button labelled,
"Hide Selected Category(s)". A list widget will pop up,
listing all class categories that are currently displayed.
Select the category(s) to be hidden, and then click on
"Use". All class categories selected will then "disappear".
Hidden class categories will still be available for other
operations, but the clusters in the hidden classes will now
be displayed in background (or original) colors.

     Showing (Re-Displaying) Selected Category(s)

Once a class category is hidden using the "Hide Selected
Category(s)" option, it is inevitable that sooner or later
you will want to re-display the hidden class category in its
associated color. For this situation, use the "Show
Selected Category(s)" action button. A list widget will pop
up, listing all class categories that are currently hidden.
Select the category(s) to be redisplayed, and then click on
"Use". All class categories selected will then "reappear",
and all clusters belonging to the re-displayed class will
again appear in the color associated with that class.

Transferring Clusters from One Category to Another

All clusters in an existing class class category may be
transfered to another class category using the "Transfer
Category(s)" action button. When you click on this action
button, you will first be presented with a list widget con-
taining the titles of all class categories that are not
empty. Select from this list one or more "Source" class
categories whose clusters are to be transferred to another
class category. Click "Use" when ready. Next, another list
widget will pop up, containing titles of all class
categories with the exception of those chosen from the first
list. Select one "Destination" class category to which all
clusters of the "Source" class category(s) will be moved.
Note that this action will cause "Source" class categories
to be emptied, and this state will be reflected by the color
boxes of the class categories turning white.
