DESCRIPTION
-----------
CPT Crosswords is multilingual crossword compiler.
This program includes the modules CPT Diagrams, CPT Words,
CPT Clues, CPT Editor, and part of dictionary tools from the CPT kit.

Features:
- Interactive and automatic mode: the user can do any step
of the crossword creation manually - using the editor,
or automatically - using the generators.
- General operations over crossword sets: browsing, searching,
adding, deleting, editing, selection by filters,
  data format conversion, printing.
- Creation and adding data to the crossword dictionaries
  used by the generators.
- Multilingual: supports all language scripts defined in
  Unicode 3.0.

The generators use word lists and dictionaries supplied by the user.
This distribution includes small dictionaries in English.
You can check the web page
http://www.geocities.com/cptshareware
for more word lists and dictionaries.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
- Supported OS: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP
  (for Linux there is a separate distribution);
- Requires 3.5 MB of disk space and
  128 MB RAM is recommended;
- This is Java program and Sun's JDK/JRE 1.1.7 or
greater or compatible is needed. The Sun's Java
Runtime Environment is available for download at:
    http://java.sun.com/products/
  (version 1.1.8 is 5 MB, 1.4.2 is 13.8 MB).
If you prefer MS JVM (jview is included in any Windows
before XP), we have to note that MS JVM has faster GUI
but supports limited number of character encodings.

INSTALL
-------
1. Extract this zip file into temporary directory.

2. Edit "install.bat" to reflect your Java VM
(there are guiding comments in the file).
Run it from the temporary directory.
This will start the wizard and according to your
choices, the CPT Crosswords program will be installed.
If you have older version of the program,
the new version should be installed in
   different directory.

3. The installation program (install.class) is a
self-extracting class file whose contents get
extracted during the installation and two
   directories will be created:
   - the target one chosen for the installation;
   - <user-home>\ITJ directory for the uninstall program
   (see UNINSTALL below).
Note that CPT Crosswords is 'single user application'
and the user running the program should have
full access to the installation directory.

4. During the installation you will be asked for a
License Key, if you don't have, leave the field
empty - the program will run in Demo mode. In this
mode the saving and printing operations are disabled,
the size of word lists/dictionaries you can create
is limited to 500 words, and CPT Words/Clues generators
will clear the results after the compilation
(for diagram sizes greater than 9), and there is
   restriction on the clipboard.

5. If you have problem running CPT Crosswords,
check/modify the generated cpt_xw10.bat file to
   reflect your JDK/JRE environment, especially
if you install a new version of JRE (e.g. for
Java 1.4 you should add "-noverify" flag).
The Java console window is closed after
starting the program. If you want to keep it,
you should change "start wjview" to "jview"
   or "start javaw" to "java".

6. The positioning of program windows is tuned
for the minimal size of "Active Title Bar".
Under Windows XP there is a small problem with the
background color of the menu bar for all
Java versions before 1.4.2. You can solve it
via selecting in desktop Display Properties
the Windows Classic theme, or via changing
the menu color of the XP theme (which is white)
   to the default background.

UNINSTALL
---------
To uninstall, do one of the following:

1. Click on the uninstall icon added to the
   start menu or desktop folder.

2. Go to the Add/Remove Programs dialog in the
Windows Control Panel and remove the program.

3. Run in command line
   <user-home>\ITJ\juninst <CPT-home>\UnInst
where <CPT-home> is the installation directory,
and <user-home> for Windows 2K/XP is:
     c:\Documents and Settings\<user-name>
   for NT it is:
     c:\winnt\Profiles\<user-name>
and for ME or single user Win 95 it is:
     c:\windows

If you have installed a new version of JRE after
the installation of this program, check/modify
juninst.bat in your <user-home>\ITJ sub directory.
After the uninstallation the ITJ directory
will not be removed because it serves all CPT
packages. If you don't have any other CPT
program, you can delete it.
