LEGAL STUFF

PUNE V0.91 is SHAREWARE. This means that you are free to play it for evaluation
purposes for 'a reasonable time'. A reasonable time should be no longer than
1 month. After that, you are obliged to Register PUNE.

You may distribute "PUNEV091.zip", and are encouraged to do so.

"PUNEV091.ZIP" may be placed on any network, and any FTP site. Magazines
cover disks/discs may also carry "PUNEV091.zip".

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY ANY VERSION OF PUNE, OR ANY OF ITS RELATED FILES,
BE DISTRIBUTED WITHOUT THIS README FILE, "PUNE.TXT".

==============================================================================

This is the UNREGISTERED version of Pune.

Installation:

You will need the following files in the current directory:
	pune.exe
		setup.exe
		data.*
		*.wav

Run setup to configure your soundcard. Curently PUNE supports all
Sound Blaster cards and Gravis Ultra Sound. the GUS is actually
untested, but should work, as should any 100% SB compatables.

Feel free to make up your own samples. The sounds used are all just
.wav files (mono, 8-bit, 11KHz). The only limitation is their length,
no more than 32k. HOWEVER, DO NOT replace my samples (no matter how
poor they may be) with your own in this distribution. If you make some
samples which you think I'd be interested in using, mail me and assuming
they are OK (they couldn't be worse than mine!) I'll add them to the zip,
and credit you in this readme.

Running PUNE:

Move to whatever directory you have chossen for PUNE e.g.(C:\GAMES\PUNE)
and type 'pune'.

*Revisions / Bugs *

Wednessday 7th June 1995 - Pune V0.9 (Pune_V09.zip)
				First Release to ftp.demon.co.uk

Friday 9th June 1995 (!!!) - Pune V0.91 (PuneV091.zip)
Fixed bug in GenStartPos() which was causing
(very) occassional crashes. I didn't even
know about this problem until the night
after the first upload, when Dave told me
he'd noticed it recently, but assumed I knew
about it. Never happens on *MY* machine.....

The Game:

*History*

For about 18 months solid, my flatmates and I played an Amiga game
called "Dune 3". It was just about as good a game as one could get, sure it
had crap graphics, but this 6-player game caused more noise, failed exams and
late nights than any other game. Unfortunatly in January this year (1995),
I had to sell my A4000 for financial reasons, leaving a severe Dune drought.

Come early Febuary, being able to take no more, I set to work, and now,
half way through March, all is well. PUNE has arrived!!

I would like to credit the authors of Dune 3 (2 German guys I think), but I
don't have the Dune readme. Either way, they did a great job on Dune, and
I hope PUNE does it justice. An enchanced Amiga version surfaced late
last year, "Viper AGA", but just didn't have the same pure addictivness, and
completly missed the perfection in simplicity factor that Dune 3 had captured,
with points for holes etc. These I include as options (mainly for a single
player to practice alone).

*Playing*

When the title screen appears, select 'Choose worms' to...ermmm...well, choose
worms, that is, how many players there will be, what colors, and what keys
they will use.

The options menu contains the .... ermmmm... options that you can have
(optionally) If you want to be a smart-assed worm and win, simply by going
through a million holes, you can select the '1 point for holes' option.

... which is very dull!

We would prefer you played it without points for holes (and we think you'll
agree it requires no skill)

You can also adjust the speed of the worms, the hole sizes and the spacing
in their trails. This, of course, adds infinite flexibility to the game, and
will keep you playing for decades.

probably.

After selecting how many players etc, select 'GO WORMS!' ,and
let the battle commence.

The aim is simply to out last the other players, either by sectioning off
your own area (sealing any holes to prevent 'rectal invasions' - see glossary
of Pune terms), or by initiating a seek to kill manouvere on an opponent.

*Scoring*

For every player that crashes, a point is awarded to every player still
active (i.e. not crashed) in a round. Rounds continue until only one
player remains. Thus in a 6 player game, the winner of a round will have
earned 5 points. The next round will start (with all players active) and this
cycle continues until a player reached the winning score. The winning score
is dependant on the number of players, and is determined as follows:

		Winning Score = 10 * (Number of Players - 1)

So, in a 4 player game, the winner is the first to reach 30 points.

GLOSSARY of PUNE terms:

This section lists frequenly used phrases in a typical PUNE sesion.

'RECTAL INVASION!!!'
A player who had sealed him/herself a nice, large secure area
might be most upset to find an opponent has succeeded in finding
a route into his/her safe haven. This term could well be expressed
at this point, intermingled with obscenities of your choice.

'oh...lies...'
A crash in a seemingly easy situation might warrant this opinion

'Illegal manouvere'
A seemingly dead player who pulls off an 'illegal manouvere'
is one who should be dead, but has somehow tricked nature and
..ermm...not died, usually at the expence of an opposing player

'debris on the screen'
Recommendation : buy new Mr Sheen with advanced anti-static dust-
guard (original) 'Mr Sheen's unique formula for a superior shine now
contains an anti-static dust-guard which works to prevent static
build up on modern surfaces keeping dust away for longer'

		* cleans and shines wood, glass, mirrors, paintwork,
			tiles and enamel, FAST!
		* removes dust, fingerprints and smudges WITHOUT SMEARING.

		* Do not use on floors, the inside of baths or shower trays,
as the high gloss could be dangerous.

'Pants!'
General term, normally involving embarassing crashes.

The important bit....REGISTRATION:

If you have anywhere near the amount of fun with PUNE as I have had with DUNE,
or intend to have with PUNE myself, then you will hopefully need no
pursuading, however, I'll help you decide to part with your 5, or A$10,
depending on where you live and want to send your cash

In the development of PUNE, I've needed to register both a graphics library &
a sound library. To make things worse, I'm unemployed and I took the chance
my investment might pay off. Please don't play an unregistered version of
PUNE, and register. I ask only 5 ($10) in return for years of fun
(seriously!!..get into it!). Compare this to the cost of most comercial games
which are nothing more than a flash intro and ZERO playability, and you should
be able to see how great value this is. I also ask that you send a stamped,
addressed envelope and a disk. If you haven't got a spare disk, I will provide
it, for an 50p (fifty uk pence) or an extra dollar.

We GUARANTEE(*) Registration will get you:
PUNE with many options such as

		* 6 simultaneous players (only 2 allowed in unregistered version)
		* Personalised binary
		* Moral satisfaction

Planned Enhancements

		* Optional PacMan style wrap-around warp gates appearing at random.
		* User-defined winning score
		* In game music
		* Tournament Play
			  - i.e. Players names entered, and statistics stored on disk.
			  - see who's on top this time next year!!!

		* network support?????..one keyboard, one player

As usual, and donations in excess of what I ask will be greatly appreciated.

Cheques, CASH(if unavoidable) etc to:

	H.N.I. Europe OR H.N.I. Australia
	A.D.A. Marketing c/o Nick Duddy
13, Railway Road 2/1A Murdoch Street
	Coleraine Cremorne Point
	Northern Ireland Sydney, NSW 2090
	BT52 1PD. Australia

Include a 3.5" disk (720k or 1.44Mb), your Name, Address & Phone Number
and of course a cheque for 5 or A$10. Please do not send cash, unless
you have no choice.(but it is better than nothing :-) )
