1. Introduction
----------------------
North American Wild Birds (NAWB) Ver. 3.5 is a customizable reference and
database program, designed to help users identify the birds in their
region. What makes NAWB different from other programs is its database,
which contains status and seasonal abundance information for every
state and province in North America. All searches are based on a
selected region allowing the user to focus on the birds most likely
to be seen in their area. NAWB V3.5 contains the following
updated features:

Customizable Species Information

The program contains information on 884 species of North American birds
from the most common to the rarest of species. All text is fully
editable allowing the user to enter their own notes.

Search Routines

Searches have been redesigned to be quick and easy. Searches can be
made based on the bird's name, or what family it belongs to. Only those
birds found in the selected region matching the search criteria will be
displayed. The Search Wizard guides the user by focusing on the general
type of bird seen, based on the differences in shape. Criteria such as
abundance, season, or breeding status help narrow down the choices.

Customizable Multimedia

There are 547 images and 136 songs included in the program (Songs are only
available to registered users). Also, new images or songs can be easily
added to the database, allowing you to add your own photos, scanned
images, or songs and images downloaded from the Internet.

You can now play the Peterson Eastern/Central Bird song CD from within the
program.

Checklists

Checklists are provided for North America, Canada, USA, and every state
and province. Each checklist provides detailed information on breeding
status, and seasonal abundance. These checklists can be easily modified,
plus new checklists can be created for any region. All searches are
based on these checklists. Checklists can now be printed.

Life Lists

With one click you can record the first sighting for every species you
see. You can easily enter sighting details such as date, location, type,
and any special notes. The program recalculates the life list every time
the region changes, therefore you can keep life lists for as many
regions as you wish. It is no problem to have a North American, Country,
State, and County life list. Life lists can now be printed.

Web Links

The program includes hundreds of links to web pages where additional
species information, photos, maps, and songs can be viewed. Each web page
is linked to the species it is related to and can be retrieved with one
click of the mouse. This information can easily be copied into the
database or just viewed by your browser program. Any web page on the
Internet can also be linked to the database so that it can easily be
retrieved.
