TROUBLESHOOTING:

Some users reported problems or errors with the beta-testing version
of Protector. I have attempted to correct these problems, but the
variety of computer architectures, hardware, software, and operating
systems in the PC world makes writing a perfect program very
difficult. Luckily, Protector is shareware, so you can try it out before
paying to see if Protector works for you.

Here are a list of problems that people might experience:

1) "Protector refuses to run and says something about DirectX"
"I'm getting a error when I run Protector that it can't find a file
called "DINPUT.DLL" or "DDRAW.DLL" or "DSOUND.DLL" or something
like that."

This means that directx is not installed on your pc.Protector requires
the DirectX libraries from Microsoft in order to run.
You can get these libraries from

http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads

DirectX should have come with almost all versions of Windows 98 and
some versions of Windows 95. Protector uses simple types of DirectDraw
and DirectSound objects, so it should work with Windows NT, too.

2) "Protector runs too slow/too fast/or with unstable speed"

This might happen on older computers or computers that don't
have fast graphics cards. Closing other applications might
help. If you run other directx applications at the same time, like an other
instance of Protector or Windows Media Player, speed problems might occure.

3) "The mouse control does not work"

This might happen if the Protector window loose focus. Use the Alt+Tab to move
back to Protector.

4) "The music is annoing"

Sorry about that. You can always turn off the music mode, or actually put in some
other midi files in the "midi"-map. Just rename them to the original names.

5) "I'm not hearing any sounds"

The first thing to check is whether you have the sound
turned on and the volume turned up.
Some people have sound cards that Protector can't access well. Protector
uses DirectX which is supposed to be standardized, but some
people have problems. You might try to get an updated version of
the sound drivers from the manufacturer of your sound card -
they're often available for download from the manufacturer's web
site.

6) My Protector graphics have little black boxes around them

This means that Protector was unable to draw pictures
transparently, which basically means it couldn't talk to your
graphics card in the right way. You might try changing the
monitor resolution and color depth under the Display control
panel and see if that helps - there's usually a combination that
will work. You can also try to get new video drivers for your
video card - they're usually available from the manufacturer of
your video card on a web site.

memory
