3. System Requirements
-------------------------
ContactDB requires the following hardware and software
configuration:

o A 100% IBM compatible 75 Mhz Pentium or higher
         computer.
o 16 MB of memory for Windows 9X. If you are
running Windows NT or 2000, 32 MB is recommended.
Larger amounts of memory are recommended for
         better performance.
o A hard disk with at least 2.5 MB of available
space free for program and data files. Up to 4
MB of disk space may be needed during the
         installation process.
o An optional printer for printing hardcopy of
         reports.
    o A 640 by 480 display monitor and a Super VGA
card. We recommend a high resolution monitor
with a resolution of 800 by 600 or better.
o Microsoft, Mouse Systems, Logitech or compatible
         mouse.
    o Windows 95/98/NT/2000 is required.

4. System Date Format
------------------------
ContactDB was designed to be Y2K-Ready. To make sure ContactDB
works correctly with your system, you will need to verify
that Windows is using the correct date format. Therefore, you
may have to change the default date format in Windows. To
change the default date format:

  1. Go into Control Panel and double-click on Regional
     Settings.
  2. Select the Date tab.
  3. Make sure that the date format for the Short date style
is "M/d/yyyy". You can use the drop-down list to select
the correct value for this field.
  4. Make sure that the Long date style is
"dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy". If you need to, use the drop-down
list to select the correct value.
  5. Click on the [OK] button to save and apply your changes.

5. Which installation program should you use?
------------------------------------------------
If you are installing ContactDB as a stand-alone program, run
the SETUP.EXE installation program.

If you plan to use ContactDB in a multi-user environment (i.e.,
on a LAN), you should:

  1. Run SETUP.EXE for the first workstation (this workstation
     will be the Administrator).
  2. Run WSSETUP.EXE for every additional workstation that will
     be sharing this application.

Please keep in mind that in a multi-user environment, every
user accessing ContactDB from a shared folder will need to
have full access rights to that shared folder.

NOTE: If you decide to uninstall ContactDB, it can only be
completely uninstalled from the Administrator's workstation.
Workstations setup with the WSSETUP.EXE program can only remove
the desktop icons that access the application.

6. Installation Procedure
----------------------------
NOTE: If you will be installing this program from a file
you downloaded from the Internet, the self-
extracting file (or Zip file) you downloaded will
create the file SETUP.EXE. Run SETUP.EXE to install
ContactDB. Do NOT rename SETUP.EXE since this will
cause the installation process to fail.

  1. To install ContactDB from Windows Explorer, open
the directory where SETUP.EXE is located and
double-click on it. If you are installing from a
floppy or CD ROM, select "Run" from the Start button
and enter: X:\SETUP.EXE (where "X" is the drive
letter of your floppy drive or CD ROM. Click on the
       [OK] button to continue.

  2. After a moment the startup screen will appear. You will
be prompted with a startup message followed by the [OK]
and [Cancel] buttons. After reading the startup message,
click on the [OK] button to continue.

  3. Next, a dialog will appear with the prompt "Please
enter the drive and directory where you wish ContactDB
to be installed". If "C:\ContactDB" is not the path
where you would like to have ContactDB installed, you
can change it now. Clock on the [OK] button to continue.

  4. When the installation process is completed, you will be
presented with the "TECHNICAL SUPPORT" screen. Click on
       the [OK] button to continue.

Once completed, the installation program will create all
necessary icons and program groups for you. Start ContactDB
by double-clicking on its icon. After ContactDB has started,
use the maximize button to expand to full screen if
necessary.

NOTE: If you are installing this application in a multi-user
environment, please see the section entitled "Which
installation program should you use?" (above) for more
information

  eliminate unnecessary blank lines.

  Multi-User versions of program.

10. New Features in 1.1.0

* Added meaningful error messages for invalid
date entry in the Activity window.
* Enhanced data-entry in Category window to prevent
  accidental modification of "Other" reserved
  category.
* Fixed bug in third-party library for
Import/Export that caused ContactDB to temporarily
lose its working directory after performing an
  Import or Export operation.

11. New Features in 1.2.0
----------------------------
* Added meaningful error messages for invalid
Fax, Pager and Voice telephone number entries
  in Address window.
* Introduced new feature to automatically add
the "@@" record entry to State if not
present. This new code is for situations
where an address does not support a U.S. State
  code (e.g., a foreign address).
* Enhanced data-entry in State window to
prevent accidental deletion or modification of
  new State Code "@@".
* Added feature to automatically fill in "@@"
State Code into Address window when no State
Code has been provided. This feature can be
overridden by selecting a different State Code
  (using the "..." button).
* Updated reports to automatically strip "@@"
  State Code when printing.
* Added new feature called "Get Registration
Info" (under the Tools menu). This feature
allows you to copy Name, Company and Serial
Number information to the clipboard. You can
then paste this clipboard information into your
email software for submission to us when you
are ready to register this product. This new
feature is available as both a menu option (in
ContactDB) and as a stand-alone program.
* Updated and expanded the help file.
* Updated third-party library that made it
difficult to display the help screen while
  performing the Import function.

12. New Features in 1.2.1
----------------------------
* Added information to Help file about
  International Addresses.
* Instead of automatically filling in missing
Category and State fields (during Import), the
user received an error message. This problem
  has been fixed.

13. New Features in 1.3.0
----------------------------
* Fixed problem with Import/Export where the
directory name would sometimes be displayed
with a short file name (e.g., C:\CONTAC~1\) in
  the file dialog.
* Added discussion of "Non-US Addresses" and
"Importing from Outlook" to the help file.
* The mailing address for Multi-Computing has
changed. Therefore, all documents that refer
to our previous address have been updated. Our
  new address is:

    Multi-Computing
    16 South Ave. West
    #174
    Cranford, NJ 07016-2650

14. New Features in 1.3.1
----------------------------
* A new button has been added to the Browse
Address form. The new button is the "Copy"
button. Clicking on the [Copy] button will
make a duplicate copy of the highlighted
record and display it in the "Changing a
Address Record" form. This new button
provides the benefit of reducing data
entry when keying in data for similar
  contacts.
* The telephone number for Multi-Computing has
also changed. The new telephone number is
  (908) 845-0348.
* New self-extracting archive. For those of
you who downloaded the self-extracting version
of the ContactDB package, there is now a new
version available. This new version will
automatically launch the Setup.exe program to
begin the installation process. The destination
folder where the files have been extracted will
also remain open on the Desktop.
* NEW MARKETING METHOD: This software is now
marketed as Trailware rather than Shareware.
Please see the document Trialwar.txt for more
  information.

15. Known Issues
-------------------
1. The Import process will allow you to import data
with a blank First Name, Last Name and Company.
However, when you open these records in data-entry
mode, you will NOT be able to save them until
something is entered for one of these fields.

2. Data-entry error messages for Date field not
displayed every time (Activity Record screen).

3. Data-entry error messages for Voice, Ext, Fax,
Pager and Home fields not displayed every time
(Address Record screen).

4. [Help] button not working at "Assign fields for
Import" screen. Use [F1] key instead.

5. During Export, the "@@" value in the State
field (of International Addresses) is not
   automatically blanked.

6. When exporting data from ContactDB, some fields
are automatically padded with blank spaces. The
   fields affected are:

     - Zip
     - Voice (Tel. #)
     - Ext (Extension)
     - Fax (Tel. #)
     - Pager (Tel. #)
     - Home (Tel. #)

7. While in the "Changing a Address Record" form,
pressing the [F1] key does not display context
sensitive help. Instead, the help index is
displayed with the number 3019 highlighted in
the keyword field. Instead of pressing [F1]
here, click on the [Help] button to get
   context sensitive help.
8. Do not change the name of the Program Group
during installation. By default the Program
Group name is "ContactDB". If this name is
changed, the Program Items will not be added
to the new Program Group. This will result in
the user having difficulty in launching
   ContactDB from the Start Menu.
