My brother is thinking about getting the Spookie. Does anyone know anything about this
kite, specifically how well it does axels, etc. Maybe how it compares to a trick kite
like the Box of Tricks or the Psycho.

Thanks,

Hum, a Spookie. Yup, I know the kite *very* well as a matter of
fact (especially as the builder is a good friend).

It is a very fast little kite, turns quickly and a total blast
in a strong wind. As far as axels go, it will do axels, but as
it is a high ratio kite, it looks sort of wierd doing one. The
kite came about before anybody ever did an axel, btw. Other tricks
such as turtles, or side slips, etc. it does with out a problem.
Of course I must qualify that as I've been flying a Spookie and
it's bigger sister the Spook, for about 3-4 years, so I know the
kite well. It is not a beginner's kite by any stretch of the
immagination and can be a challenge for an intermediate flier.
Like any other kite, it has it's quirks, but once your used to
them, hey, no problem.

So, if your looking for a fun kite to play around with, I would say
go for it. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a serious
competition sport kite.... Get a ZDX or Lil' ZDX.

Gentle breezes,

Steve

The Spookie is a 3/4 size version of the Spook, R.Kites narrow
root cord(the ratio of tip to tail vs wing span) stunter. It is VERY much
like a old Spiro-jet and is extremely unstable. Meaning that if yer
brother likes oversteer, flat spins(controled & uncontroled) and other
heart-stopping stunts...get it.

The kite is very demanding and rather unforgiving of Ham-fisted flight
inputs. It is also about 3 years out of date...Reed Richards,(R.Kites)
has come out with his ZDX line which is light years better in control
than any Spook of Spookie could ever be. I own a ZDXL and love it. I
highly recommend your brother consider a ZDX over a Spookie, I think Reed
would too.
