Hail, Adventurer Grandmasters!

If you're not a grandmaster, don't go any further...
Spoilers ahead...

Okay, after retrieving a DOS version of Adventure (350 pts),
I am now at the place that I was at about 8 years (?!)
ago when I last played it; namely, I get all the treasures
(15) to the building, then go back in to explore so
the endgame takes me. At least, that's how I remember
it happening. Unfortunately, that's not what's happening!
Instead, when I do this, after a while my lamp simply runs
out. The only way I can get to the endgame is to spend the
coins at the vending machine to get batteries, which of course
means I don't get the full points for the coins, which means
no adventurer grandmaster rating (:(). I don't remember having
to do this when I last played.

The only thing I can figure is that my method of retrieving the
treasures is not "optimal" enough to get in under the wire for
the lamp limit, and my lamp runs down before the cave closing
kicks in (20(?) turns after the last treasure is found). I
know that at one time I had a faster way, but all that stuff
has long since vacated my brain, and I lost my written maps/notes,
so I had to make new ones.

The order I'm going after treasures is:
diamonds
nugget
jewelry
coins
silver -> back to building
rug
(eggs)
chain
spices
trident
(eggs) -> leave in bedquilt til next foray
pearl -> back to building
(emerald) -> move out to get later
pyramid
magazines -> leave at Witts end
vase
emerald
pillow
eggs -> back to building
chest

What have I forgotten?
Any ideas/hints would be appreciated!
