I agree.  Zork I was the first Infocom game I played, back when the whole 
thing was a mystery -- I didn't even know about Infocom or Text Adventures;
I just thought the cover looked interesting.  I was addicted from then on, 
of course.  My biggest problem with Zork I was that I didn't realize the goal
was simply to put a bunch of treasures in that trophy case!  I had a whole
bunch of stuff piled inside the house, not realizing what I had to do with it!
And the maze was intensely confusing for a first-timer.  I don't think I
could have ever solved Zork II without the InvisiClues...  many of the puzzles
just weren't all that obvious.  And there were a lot of places you could
accidentally make mistakes.  And how in the world would anyone have known to
extinguish your lantern in that final room to see the secret door???

Oh, but the exhilaration from actually solving the maze without using any
hints was great.  My favorite spell was the summoning spell...  summoning
Belboz in the Terror maze was pretty funny, as was summoning the Implementors.
But was it Zifmia or Aimfiz???  One summons, one sends...
