Bad idea. Total waste of the nets time. That is what shar is for. That way
it is easy to unpack (admittedly on UNIX based systems). Now 10000 people
would have to cut and paste for an hour.

There has been a good deal of discussion on how to make it easier for every
type of os/hardware to unpack the sources. Trying to do it with only one
format is not really very sensible. If ease of unpacking is a concern then
do what most people who have been presented with this problem have done in
the past, have different archives for the different systems as appropriate.
Have a Zip version, a Lharc version, a Tar version, a Shar version ... This
way the user community can grab the specific verion that is best for them.

You are correct... :-) I would think that comp.sources.games is the most
appropriate place but if it was rejected, I can assure you that the moderator
of comp.sources.misc *would* post it... :-) ;-)
