I'd still say the best way to do it is to give the verb in the item
description-

>LOOK AT ROPE
The rope is long and somewhat frayed at the ends.
>TIE ROPE TO HOOK
You tie the rope to the hook in the ceiling
>LOOK AT ROPE
The rope is long and somewhat frayed at the ends. It's tied to
a hook in the ceiling, reinding you of those Tarzan movies
where he goes around swinging and hanging from the vines to
rescue the girl.
