			ARUN - README

Alan is a special purpose computer language for creating text
adventures, also known as interactive fiction. This archive contains
only the interpreter.

If this version of the interpreter can not run the game, use

	<interpreter name> -d <game>

to get information about the version of the compiled game. You can
possibly retrieve a version that runs it from the download page at the
Alan Home Pages at:

	http://welcome.to/alan-if

Best thing is of course to recompile the game if you can!

NOTE1: You may need to rename the program to make it work right. The name
of the DOS Glk interpreters are:

glkarun (for the standard version, using the dosglk library)
termarun (for the curses version, using the glkterm library)
charun (for the stdio version, using the cheapglk library)

This Glk port was done by Joe Mason <jcmason@uwaterloo.ca>, with help
from Iain Merrick and Stephen Griffiths

NOTE2: Complete distribution and documentation packages of the latest
version are available from the web site or from the Interactive
Fiction Archives (and its mirrors) at

	ftp.gmd.de:/if-archive/programming/alan

NOTE3: The versions of the interpreter contained in this package contain one
known bug. Game transcripts produced with the -l option will not be formatted
correctly. This bug should be fixed in the next release. (There is also a
bug in the "glkarun" version, where the [MORE] prompt is sometimes printed
two lines two late. This seems to be a bug in the DosGlk library, and I
haven't been able to track it down. If this occurs, simply use the Up arrow
or PageUp key to scroll back.)

Thanks for your interest and have much fun!
