She has performed in many prestigious music conferences in India and has had successful concert tours of Europe and North America. Ashwini began her training at the age of five under the guidance of Pandit Narayanrao Datar. After graduating with a sangeet visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, she studied with her mother, Manik Bhide, herself a great Khyal singer. She is now studying with Ratnakar Pai, a veteran of the Jaipur tradition. Her meticulous exposition of the raga structure, brilliant phrasing, variety of taan patterns, ease and grace in all three octaves mark her singing. She does not merely present the grammar of a raga but builds it into an aesthetically joyful experience. A resident of Mumbai, India, Ashwini is a graduate in Microbiology and also holds a Ph.D degree in Biochemistry. Seema Shirdokar's initial training began with Umesh Ansulkar. She has received extensive training under Tulsidas Borkar and also studied with the late Vishwanath Pendharkar. A graduate of the S.N.D.T. University, Seema is on the faculty of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai. She has accompanied leading vocalists in concerts throughout India as well as the U.S.A., Europe, U.K., Canada and several countries of the Middle East. Vishwanath Shirodkar's understanding of the art of the tabla and his profound knowledge of vocal music make him an outstanding accompanist. His earliest studies were with Suryakant Naik and Vaibhav Nageshkar; currently he is studying with Suresh Talwalkar. He has accompanied many well-known vocalists as well as instrumental musicians and has performed in the U.S.A., Canada, South America, the Middle East and all the major cities of India. The Music Circle has been the leading force in bringing the finest Indian classical music and dance to Southern California since it was founded by Ravi Shankar and Harihar Rao in 1973. We strive to present the best of the performing arts of India to audiences in intimate settings reminiscent of such groups in India.
