This is my version of the UUPC program, adapted for Minix and other
Unix systems. UUPC was originally written by Richard Lamb and Stuart
Lynne, and posted to comp.sources.misc.

The packet protocol code is entirely mine, and has been posted in
exactly the same form in comp.mail.uucp. Most of the rest of the
changes have been made to adapt the program to a Unix-like
environment, and do things much the same way as the native UUCP program
does them. Most of the "portability features" were ripped out when
they got in the way of being a straightforward "native Unix"
program. Quite a few bugs were fixed. Most of the code has been
re-indented. The dialer code is by John F. Haugh, from his
comp.sources.unix posting.

It works quite reliably on my PC/AT-clone running Minix-1.3c. Many,
many megabytes of files, news, and mail have gone through it since
October '88. It has even been used for mail between two Minix systems.

This posting is not for everybody, however. I haven't cleaned it up
and made it easy to install, or written any documentation. You should
be a bit of a UUCP wizard, or motivated enough to become one. I am
posting this because there seem to be quite a few interested people
out there who meet this description.

For references, see "UUCP Implementation Description", by D.A. Nowitz
(in the V7 and BSD documentation), or _Managing_UUCP_and_Usenet_, in
the Nutshell Handbooks series by O'Reilley and Associates. These may
or may not be helpful.

For a mail transport agent, I recommend (though not very strongly)
smail 2.5, from the comp.sources.unix archives; anyone who wants a copy
of my "defs.h" file, just ask.

Good luck!
