Hello,
Welcome to the SimCity demo. To install, create a directory where you
want to put the game and copy the files to it. For example, if you
want to use /usr/local/SimCity as the home directory and you are loading
the game from a CD ROM then do the following:

   mkdir /usr/local/SimCity
   cd cdromdirthatholdsSimCity
   tar cf - . | (cd /usr/local/SimCity; tar xf -)

Some CD distributions use the pkgadd utility and should be hidden from the
user. Others may have downloaded from the ftp site and have a compressed
tar file (.tar.Z). To uncompress and untar:

   mkdir /usr/local/SimCity
   cp scl_xxx_3.6b.tar.Z /usr/local/SimCity
   uncompress scl_xxx_3.6b.tar.Z
   tar xvf scl_xxx_33..6b.tar

Hopefully when the distributions settle down a bit, this README will
be updated with the single standard installation instructions.

Next, edit the SimCity script so that you change to the correct SimCity
directory. Then, copy the SimCity script to a location that all users
can access, i.e. /usr/local/bin. If you don't want to make it globally
accessible, just leave the SimCity shell script in the SimCity directory.
However, using the later method, you must be in the SimCity directory to
run the demo.

Finally, the display that SimCity runs on must have either a psuedcolor
or staticgray visual, i.e. have a depth of either 8 bit (256 colors), or
1 bit (monochrome). Just type SimCity to run the game and determine if
your display will work. If it fails then you can either go to
Admin_Tools->Display_Setup (or whatever is used to setup the display on
your system) and see if you can get a 256 color or monochrome mode working
or if you are connected to a network, use the -display node:x.x option to
connect to a proper display. Sorry, but you must have a valid key to run
the multi-user mode.

The demo runs 15 minutes, or if you try and save the game. If you would
like to purchase a key to unlock the game follow the directions when the
demo ends.

If you run into problems, please E-Mail M & W at RonnieW252@aol.com.

Thanks,

Mark Mattes
