| SAVING NEWSRC
| =============
|
| Saving your newsrc is the process of updating the state of your
| newsrc file to match the current state of the newsreader. It is accomplished
| through the menu item "Save Newsrc" found under the Actions menu in
| the menubar.
|
| The newsreader will automatically save your newsrc file for you
| on every rescan, and when you select the Quit option from the file menu.
| It will NOT save it when you exit a newsgroup, or when you select
| the Abort option from the file menu.
|
| The facility for periodically saving your newsrc is not yet in
| place, so it is wise to use the command every so often, especially if
| you have been reading news for a while. Should the newsreader lock
| up (the NFS server for news goes down) or something break, you will
| only recover the state of your news since the last save. It can be
| very frustrating to read news for an hour only to have the newsreader
| lock up. If you haven't save your newsrc recently, it can mean a good
| deal of wasted time as you are forced to go back and quickly mark the
| articles you already viewed as read.
|
| Tknews organizes your newsrc file with the subscribed groups
| first. This makes it easier for you to determine which newsgroups you
| are subscribed to when viewing the newsrc file in a text editor. This
| may cause problems if another newsreader you use requires a certain
| order between the subscribed and unsubscribed newsgroups in the file,
| as tknews will corrupt that order. For newsreaders such as rn, however,
| there will be no discernable difference.
