| GROUP STATUS
| ============
|
| Group status refers to the marking of a newsgroup as either
| interesting of uninteresting to the user. A newsgroup which is marked
| as subscribed will be viewable by the user in their newsreader. One
| which is marked as unsubscribed will not be seen by the user when reading
| news.
|
| There are many ways of subscribing to new newsgroups. Three
| commands are available to you in Groups mode: "Add Group", "Goto Group",
| and "Unsubscribe". These commands are described below:
|
| "Add Group" - This command adds a new newsgroup to your list of interest,
| but does not immediately enter it. When you add a new
| newsgroup in this manner you will see it appended to your
| list of newsgroups with unread articles provided it has any
| unread articles in it.
|
| "Goto Group" - This command differs from the add group command in two ways.
| First, it does not necessarily subscribe to the target
| newsgroup. Only if the newsgroup specified is currently
| unsubscribed will it mark it as subscribed. Secondly,
| this command will enter the target newsgroup and display
| the list of unread articles available automatically. This
| can be bothersome if the number of unread articles is large
| for the newsgroup in question.
|
| "Unsubscribe" - This command does just what it says, it unsubscribes to the
| target newsgroup(s). In Articles mode it will unsubscribe
| to the current newsgroup, and in Groups mode it will
| unsubscribe to all of the currently highlighted newsgroups.
|
|
| Two other methods of subscribing and unsubscribing to newsgroups
| are available. These are different from the above commands in that they
| require their own mode. They are : "All Groups" and "New Groups". These
|commands differ only in the range of newsgroups displayed, and are
| described below :
|
| "All Groups" - This command will show you all of the valid newsgroups
| available for subscription. The groups to which you are
| currently subscribed are displayed at the top of the list,
| and all of the unsubscribed newsgroups are displayed in
| sorted order below them.
|
| "New Groups" - This command presents a list only of those newsgroups which
| have been created since you last checked for new newsgroups.
| This command is automatically invoked whenever you start up
| tknews.
