NCSA Height-Color Visualizer Demos
May 1990
National Center for Supercomputing Applications
-----------------------------------------------

All demos in this directory have a '.demo' suffix in the file
name. To execute a particular demo, just type the filename.

The '.demo' files are script files with parameters for the
hcvis program. You may view these '.demo' files if you wish.

'.hdf' files are the data files in NCSA Hierarchical Data Format
(HDF). Both 8-bit and 24-bit images are supported as well as 2D
floating-point scientific data. 8-bit images rely on a color
map with 256 entries which are stored in locations 512-767 of
the SGI lut. The program 'palshow' displays the current color
map. Palshow is in the directory 'hcvis_bin'. Palette files
have the suffix '.hpal'. Optionally the palette may be stored
as part of the image file. The program 'df_dspl' in 'hcvis_bin'
will display HDF files'. The program 'iristohdf' in 'hcvis_bin'
will convert 8-bit and 24-bit images in SGI IRIS libimage.a format
into HDF files. 'iristohdf' will not work with 12-bit lut images.
