Subject: how is mail sent?

From: Michael Harnois <mharnois@sbt.net>

Well, suddenly I have a need to understand how mail is sent from XEmacs. The
reason is that suddenly I can't do it. Whether I use Gnus' mailer or XEmacs',
when I send a message I get

Jun 25 18:29:44 mharnois sendmail[235]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(mharnois): cannot chdir(/var/spool/mqueue): Permission denied

However, this doesn't happen if I use a command-line mailer. So I'm confused
as hell and I have no idea what I might have done to cause this.
