Did you think I said that I left gdb (the program) because gdb.el
didn't work?  I left gdb because gdb doesn't debug C++ very well on my 
two main platforms.

All the modes *work*, it's just that 1) gdb.el is much better than
gud-dbx and 2) there are many different front ends (gdb.el, gud.el,
gdbsrc.el).
