Hmm, that's odd because I didn't notice this behavior before.. I have
'vi' aliased to 'gnuclient' (which admittedly shocks a lot of people
who borrow my workstation for a few minutes...) [1] and gnuclient
get's called into play an awfully lot for me throughout the day.

I'll check it out next chance I get...  the hammering part is pretty
reliably reproducible for me though, it's just a matter of timing.
