Agreed. Let gprof and quantify be the judges!

STEVE: Has the jury reached the verdict?

DAVID MOORE: Yes, your honor.

STEVE (reads the paper): Thank you. May the defendent rise.

HRVOJE (rises): Gulp.

DAVID: The jury, consisting of an equal number of gprof and Quantify
runs has reached the conclusion that...

A SPECTATOR WITH STRONG FINNISH ACCENT: But have you used elp?

DAVID: I beg your pardon?

JARI: I think elp is an ideal tool for measuring the speed of
`mapcar1'. Note that the function is uncompiled, though, so the
results may be a little bit silly. Read all about it in my guides.

DAVID: Thank you. But no, the measurements were conducted without the
assistance of the worthy elp.
As I was saying, the jury reached conclusion that the defendant is
guilty of cluttering the XEmacs code, while achieving only a
negligible speedup.

A SPECTATOR WITH A BOHEMIAN-LIKE HAIRCUT: Pbbbbt. Have you compiled
with `--error-checking', twinkletits?

BEN: Shut the fuck up, Jamie! Or start writing code.

JAMIE (sneaks out of the room): Gulp!

STEVE (bumps with the hammer): Silence! How does the defendant plea?

HRVOJE: (let ((list (make-list 100000 'hmmm)))
          (mapc-internal (symbol-function 'identity) list))
          <C-g C-g ... damn!  it won't quit... oh... the QUIT macro!>
Yes, your honor? You were talking to me?

STEVE: How do you plea?

HRVOJE: Foop blat.
