All this is broken broken broken IMHO. With custom, I change the faces
the way I like, and nothing else. If I want "font" changes, I'll
customize them. If I want "colors" I customize them. If I want a mix
of both, I... (you get the picture), if I want different values for
tty and X...

The best IMHO would be to replace the damned Fonts/Colors entry with a
simple entry "Customize..." with should open a customize buffer with
the appropriate faces.
