Why not consider using some mail archiver (such as hypermail)
that allows one to easily search the mail archives (without
first having to donwload a huge mail archive). This is a poor
mans way to quickly locate relevant messages.

Failing that, wouldn't it be easy to add some hack to W3
and xemacs.org so one could fetch all recent mail messages
that match some regexp?
