 Why does the modeline face, in browse-faces or customize, have a
solid background, when none of the other faces can be set to have one?

 Wouldn't it be neat if individual faces could have the
attributeBackgroundPixmap set for them, so zmacs-region could have a
different patterned backing?   (I tried it, and it doesn't seem to
work.)
