I had to re-byte-compile lisp/tm/tm-edit.el to get message to load.

Configured for `i586-unknown-linux2.0.27'.

  Where should the build process find the source code?

  What operating system and machine description files should XEmacs use?
        `s/linux.h' and `m/intel386.h'
  What compiler should XEmacs be built with?

  --with-toolbars=no --with-gif --with-mule=no --debug
  --error-checking=none --use-union-type --rel-alloc
  --use-system-malloc --with-database=berkdb,gnudbm

(Stock 2.7.2.1, not pgcc.)

--use-system-malloc and --with-toolbars=no seem to speed up things.
Not sure, though.
