This time I ran
emacs-version
"20.1 XEmacs Lucid (beta9)"
with
w3-version
"WWW 3.0.71 1997/03/20 18:03:49"
on the fileserver (no NFS involved),
a 125MHz SS20 with 64Mb of RAM
