I don't know. I just tried find-file on a number of tar files
including libgr-2.0.11.tar.gz[1], and it worked O.K. so long as I didn't
insert any characters into the directory. The tar directory buffer
isn't read-only and hitting Enter gave me some weird-looking displays
when I subsequently clicked on file names.

At any rate, tar-mode.el is unchanged from 19.14.

All I got when I attempted to `find-file xemacs-19.15-b4.tar.gz' was a
`memory exhausted' error :-(, guess I need more RAM & swap.
