This is a thing that has come to my mind also (but don't hope too
much. if I have no idea how to use spiffy graphics in a project, 
my motivation is always just the half... of course this is enought for
most things in life like physic's diploma thesis...)

Yes. But if I go down writing something like this it will be
cooperative with gnus, that means, you should be able to mark groups in
gnus (maybe another group param) and my reporting module should be
able to use these values...
