I think the consensus (not just in xemacs-beta this time but also in
gnu.misc.discuss where this came up some time ago) is that there is
ground for a change. The problem it would be nice if iy was the same
change in both Emacsen.

There is a concrete proposal (gather together by Erik Naggum).
 1. Change the help-char to be ?.
 2. Likewise bind M-? to help.
 3. IF we are on X or the user has not got C-h in his stty settings
make C-h work as much as before as possible.
BUT IF the use has a stty C-h binding for delete and we are not
      on X then bind C-h to delete-backward-chell.

Word has it that rms is not really against this. The problem is Will
it appear in FSF emacs or not.
