This is not about shouting.  Regardless of xemacs-beta, most of the
people I know dislike the default glaring white intensely.

This is simply not true.  Most of the major X toolkits and sets are
moving away from the white background.  For example, CDE and Motif.

This issue is quite separated from the default-background-color issue.
