I think that thingatpt.el should go into XEmacs distribution.  It's a
very small, but useful file, defining functions like `forward-symbol',
`thing-at-point', etc.

You can do `(thing-at-point 'word)' or `(thing-at-point 'symbol)', and
get what you'd expect.

It comes with 19.34 distribution, and works out-of-the-box on XEmacs.
