Personal preference.  This just seems an obvious long-term improvement
in usability, although a new user will need a few extra seconds to
grok them than if they are placed at opposite ends of the slider.

Except for Xaw3d scrollbar problems, vertical scrollbars should just
work now.  Horizontal scrollbars still have some usability problems.
