This is exactly the behavior Steve and I were seeing.

I think all you have to do is have an nnfolder with a msg. with a From
at the beginning of a line to trigger it.  Should be able to just edit
a folder, put one in, and see it.

Once I had substituted all my lines with ^From to ^>From everything
was fine (well, the nnfolder claimed to have a ridiculous # of msgs in
it til I actually visited it and exited from it).
