Do unified diff patches work for you?

I set up a frame with the Gnus SPC*Original Article ...* buffer in one
window and skeleton.el in the other and selected the above option.

Buffer *ediff patch diagnostics*:
|retrieving revision 1.1.1.1
|diff -u -r1.1.1.1 skeleton.el
|--- skeleton.el	1996/12/18 22:43:01	1.1.1.1
|+++ skeleton.el	1997/02/05 22:52:30
--------------------------
Patching file /usr/src/xemacs-19.15/lisp/utils/skeleton.el using Plan A...
Hunk #1 succeeded at 391.
Hmm...  Ignoring the trailing garbage.
done

Ediff does unspeakable things to my frame and window configuration
besides committing the cardinal sin of warping the mouse, but patching
does work ...
