	I should have mentioned: the safest thing to do is to use the
system provided malloc on these machines.

	We might want to think about clearing any system provided
__malloc_hook, to prevent problems if a future gnu malloc in some glibc
makes some non-backwards compatible assumptions about the gmalloc which
calls it.
