Hmm. What do you call a "SGML grep program"?

Sure. As far as standards goes, unfortunately it's often not the best
tools which are most supported. See C++ for a counter example (note: I
do a living of C++ programming, but I still think that it's far from
being the best OO programming language around. Still, it is the one
choosen as "industry standard").
