Couldn't tell you who is the culprit.  I have tm displaying all mail
through gnus.  If I got to reply to a mail that has been displayed in
an xterm where only the two line output from tm is displayed:

Your font path appears to be correctly set.
Running xterm to display text in iso-8859-1, please wait...

When I go to yank the message for the reply C-cC-y all i get quoted
are these two lines.
