The complaints about patch 2.5 are, IIRC, dealing with bugs like memory
being free'd twice.  AFAIK, no coredumps or bad patches were actually
generated.  In any case, the _alpha_ 2.5.1 (which fixes all the reported
problems) is available from:

ftp://alpha.gnu.ai.mit.edu/gnu/patch-2.5.1.tar.gz

It has worked fine for me.
