I routinely disable USE_CLASH_DETECTION on all of the versions I install
for public consumption.  Our Corporate Software Bank, where our tools are
stored, is mounted read-only except for a handful of machines, so they
couldn't write to the standard lock directory anyway.

I think I did it this way once or twice, but decided that since 95% of our
users have their own machines it really didn't do much good.  YMMV
