If you want XEmacs to be faster, make that your priority and work
on the code. Progress has been made in that area, believe me.
I've been using the same 486 PC from 19.10 up until today, so I
know.

Pondering the seeds of the destruction of man, being tortured by
the memory of a lost love and talking about it here really isn't
going to make XEmacs faster; working on the code will. It's not
easy, but it can be done. For instance, I know most of the
reason why face creation is so slow: updating face inheritances.
But improving it will take time, maybe a lot of time, and my
first priority right now is fixing bugs and crashes. If someone
else wants to tackle it, then have at it and good luck.
