Both of these are good points, but you must take into account that
building XEmacs binaries is volunteer work, so the binary builders
would probably prefer to just build one version and be done with it.

True.  Ideally, we should distribute completely statically linked
binaries.  I am still not sure whether this is possible on Solaris.
