Jan 6, 1994 scsiping uses user-mode SCSI commands to query a set of specified SCSI disks, and outputs the results in great detail to the standard output. Disks are specified on the command line, as raw devices. For example, under SunOS 4.x: scsiping /dev/rsd0c /dev/rsd1c /dev/rsd3c or under SunOS 5.x: scsiping /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2 /dev/rdsk/c0t1d1s2 scsiping supports sun4c, sun4m, sun4d, and sun4e systems running SunOS 4.1.1 or later. For further information, see the documents of the ANSI X3T9.2 (SCSI) task group (X3.131-198x). The official ANSI documents may be obtained from: Global Engineering Documents 1990 M Street NW #400 Washington, DC 20036 (800)854-7179 or (202)429-2860 Draft copies are available for anonymous ftp from ftp.cdf.toronto.edu in pub/scsi-doc. Installation: edit the makefile to taste, and install. scsiping needs to be able to read the raw disk devices specified on the command line. It can be installed setuid or setgrpid as desired. The latest version of this software is available for anonymous ftp in North America from ftp.cdf.toronto.edu (128.100.31.2) or in Europe from ftp.fwi.uva.nl (146.50.4.20) in /pub/scsiping. Bug reports, fixes, enhancements, etc. are welcome. Jan Wortelboer (janw@fwi.uva.nl) John DiMarco (jdd@cdf.toronto.edu)
