This is the beta release of the Win3 empire client. It has one shining
feature. It works. Hardware and software wise, this is what you will need
to run it:

386 or higher PC
Windows, Windows for Workgroups, or NT(AS). I have not actually tested it
this out on Win3.0 or 3.1, just
                                             WFW and NTAS.
TCP-IP NOS running on your PC I have used pctcp on my WFW and
                                             MS's on my NTAS.
Full internet connection for your PC

Basicly you need a PC on the internet running some form of Windows.
After you pull the zipped file down and unzip it, you will get two files.
This text file and client.exe. Stick the exe where ever you feel like. It
has it's own icon so you won't have to change that.
Running the program is somewhat simple. After you get the program
started, click on the logon menu. Change the fields to the proper settings.
You have to use the IP numbers for the host. The "user" field will be
entered into the server log file, appended with your machine's IP name.
After all the fields are filled in, click on "Okay". If a valid connection
is made, you will get a "Hail Ceasar" message. Any other messages mean
failure. Exit the program, restart, and fill in the fields again.
After the "Hail Ceasar" massage, you will be put back to the main
window. Click on the "command" menu. You will now see the MOTD and all the
other logon stuff you are used to. This command window is divided into
3 areas. The text field, the command field, and the prompt. You can't enter
a command until you get a prompt in the prompt field. Currently (and this
is one reason why this is a beta release), you will have to click the mouse
in the command field. This field is unlabed just to the right of the prompt
field. You will have to click here for every command. Even each line of
a telegram.
Data that comes back from the server will be displayed below. There is
currently only a 17 line scroll buffer. An automatic "more" command has
been built in. Fixing this is item #2 for version 1.0.
Pipe commands, output redirection, and exec files are not yet enabled.
The latter two will be in 1.0. If you have any questions or comments, just
e-mail me at loney@kaos.lerc.nasa.gov.
Special thanks to Ken Pierce (LSF) for answering lots of my stupid ques-
tions on the phone and even faxing me info on using C++. Also, thanks to
Don Harper. I used the VMS client source code as a reference for socket
interfaces.
