Good ol' freeware.

POP 'N' Check resides in the system tray,
checking your mail on POP3 servers on given intervals.

You can specify 100 accounts, each with different
settings and intervals.

Getting started:

When you run the program for the very first time,
you need to tell it where to get the mail, and
what user name/password to use.

Press the "Open accts." button. This opens the file
where all user settings are written.

  01 Press the "New" button.
02 Check "Enable this account" if you want POP 'N' Check
to check for mail on this account.
03 Under "Account name", write what the program
should recognize the account as. Lets say it's
an Yahoo account, you can call it "Yahoo".
04 Server: The host or IP address of the mail server.
05 Port: The port that the server listens to. Usually
     this is 110.
  06 User: Your user name.
  07 Pass: Your password.
08 Interval in seconds: How often it should check that
     for mail on that account.
09 Check "I leave my mail on the server" if you leave
your mail on the server, instead of deleting it.
10 Press the "Add acct." button to add the account.

Repeat steps 1-10 for as many accounts that you want
to check. If you want to delete an account, press the
"Delete" button. You can navigate between accounts
by using the "Previous"/"Next"/"First"/"Last" buttons.
If you make changes to the account settings, save them
by pressing the "Update" button.

The first time POP 'N' Check connects to a server,
it checks what kind of authentication it can use.
If for some reason you want to reset this setting,
open the accounts, go to the account you want to edit,
and click "Clear AUTH". Then hit "Update" and close
the accounts.

It is important that you remember to close the accounts
when you're done editing, as it pauses mail checking
while the accounts are open.

Settings tab:

  - Start with Windows: POP 'N' Check starts up together
    with Windows.
  - Tell me once when I can't connect: If POP 'N' Check
is unable to connect to a server, it gives you an error
    message, then shuts up.
  - Log stuff that's going on: Echoes activity to the log tab.
  - Show me all new mail...: Lists every mail (Sender/Subject/Date)
in the New mail tab, not just a summary from each server.
  - Pop up balloon box...: Gives you a notice when there's
    new mail for you.
