Taxman 2001 is an income tax preparation program for all of Canada except Quebec. Taxman includes business, rental and employment expense statements. The program prints Revenue Canada accepted forms for the tax year 2001. It should be used in conjunction with Revenue Canada guides and forms.

To install, double-click on setup.exe.

After setup, you launch Taxman by pressing the Start button, then going to Programs, then Taxman, and finally clicking Taxman 2001. There should also be a shortcut on your Desktop and another in the folder where you installed Taxman.

You uninstall Taxman through the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. This will remove everything except msacc8.olb and vba332.dll. These files are in the folder 'Program Files\Common Files\Taxman' and you can delete them if you want.

Please e-mail the Taxman at gthompson@pacificcoast.net with any problems or comments.

Before mailing your return, check the list of all errors found to date on the Taxman web page (http://pacificcoast.net/~gthompson/). There were many changes in the 2001 tax year and there's bound to be just as many bugs in the program. Remember that pressing <F5> will let you override the program.

This message comes with version 1.7 (01txm17.zip).

Bugs found to date:
If upgrading from version 1.1, 01tables.mdb must be replaced (see Readme.txt included with download).

For version 1.6 to work, the file msacc8.olb must be moved from your 'Windows\System' folder to the 'Program Files\Common Files\Taxman' folder. Version 1.7 corrects this installation error.

Version 1.6 (01txm16.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below and, with luck, there should be no problems installing on Windows 2000 and XP. There are only minor changes to the tax program but an all new installation. Don't ungrade unless necessary.
If you have more than one dependant claimed at Lines 306 or 315, then the corresponding Lines 5820 and 5840 on your provincial tax forms must be overridden: press F5 and enter the correct amount.
The validation rule for Line 178 on Schedule 3 is wrong. If you need to enter at Line 178, get version 1.6.

Version 1.5 (01txm15.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below.
Schedule 11 for Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan may transfer incorrect amounts to Lines 5916 and 5918 on T1-KS2. Visiting Provincial Schedule 11 after the federal Schedule 11 will reset T1-KS2. Otherwise you must manually correct T1-KS2 just before printing.

Version 1.4 (01txm14.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below.
Line 5914 on Provincial Schedule 11 doesn't transfer to T1-KS. You must manually update T1-KS2 Line 5914.

Version 1.3 (01txm13.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below.
Line 421, self-employed CPP payable is only half what it should be. Override Line 421 and enter what's on line 10 of Schedule 8.

Version 1.2 (01txm12.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below.
Provincial Schedule 2 at Lines 5804 and 5856 shows Line 300 and line 13 on the federal Schedule 2. Don't change the numbers because that changes your federal Schedule 2. Instead override Lines 5804 and 5856 or line 7 on your provincial Schedule 2.

Version 1.1 (01txm11.zip) fixes all the bugs listed below.
GST/HST Rebate: On Rebate1 the 'Tax year' shows 1905! Just cross it out on the printed form and write in "2001". Also, after updating from Employment Expenses, you must recalculate Rebate2 (press Recalc on the menu) and then check that the eligible expenses are correct.
Line 431: Calculation of foreign tax credits fails. If you paid any foreign tax, you must manually calculate your credits.

Notes:
Before you replace one version of Taxman with another, backup all files in your Taxman folder that end in ".mdb" - your data. Normally your data files are never replaced, but wierd things can happen. If a data file has to be replaced, you must first rename your old file (which hides it) before you run setup.
