26AUG03 - The HVLJFNTS.ZIP Package
===============================================================

The HVLJFNTS.ZIP file contains all the files necessary to install and use
the Laser printer version of ProCon's HVLJFont package.

This font package will be of value primarily when you:-
   work with
     MS-DOS, or
     Window's terminal programs, or
     Unix or Linux, or
     an Apple Macintosh, or
     IBM's AS/400 system, etc.;
and have a Laser printer that does NOT provide fixed pitch fonts that are
     scalable, and/or
     sufficiently legible.

The Licenced version of the package provides a range of superior quality,
high legibilty, fixed pitch fonts based on ProCon's HVFont design.

Sizes range from a miniscule 50cpi, 3pts, (unreadable except with a
magnifying glass), right up to a large 8.33cpi, 17pts. The sizes from 30cpi
to 15cpi are generally the most useful as very few printers can produce
readable text at these sizes with their native fonts.

The Evaluation version provides a very limited subset of these sizes.

---------------------------------------------------------------
What you need to know to use these Printer Fonts
---------------------------------------------------------------

To use downloadable printer fonts you must be familiar with:-

  - your Printer
. Does it have PCL support installed?
. What built in hardware fonts does it provide?
. Can it Scale these fonts?
. Can it Bold and/or Italicise these fonts?
. Does it have enough memory to receive soft fonts?

  - your Software Application
. How does it select printer fonts?
. Is that method user configurable?
. Can you specify specific PCL Escape sequences?
. Can it select by font ID or just font characteristic?

  - the Terminal Mode you are using
. Do you understand the difference between GDI and Printer fonts?
. Can you edit and maintain batch or script files?
. Do you know how to download fonts to a printer?

If your knowledge of printer fonts and printing is limited to printing from a
Windows application, you do not need this portion of the HVFont package - and
will not be able to use it effectively.

Note: We cannot assist you with general problems you may have related to
printers, printing, installing fonts, accessing fonts, etc.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Using the files with the Blank Space Character
---------------------------------------------------------------

The .SF_ files are equivalent to the corresponding .SFP files
except that they use a standard blank SPACE character.

If you find the "grid" effect of the dotted SPACE character
confusing, you can install these fonts instead. To do so you
can use them directly instead of the equivalent .SFP file or
rename the .SF_ files

To do this from MS-DOS type:-
DEL *.SFP to delete the standard .SFP files, then
REN *.SF_ *.SFP to change all extensions .SF_ to .SFP
